VOLLEYBALL: Panthers defeat Aggies, Sioux

The Rugby Panthers were in the process of finishing their district matchups Tuesday with a win at home against Velva.

Last week, the Panthers also defeated Westhope-Newburg.

The Panthers defeated the Aggies, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16.

For the Panthers, outside hitters Maria Blessum and Sara Stier had a combined 16 kills and 26 digs. The former led in aces along with setter Briana Leier (4). Middle blocker Jacque Blessum led in blocks (4), and setter Alissa Volk led in assists (11).

Middle hitter Rachel Mack and outside hitter Greta Florence led the Aggies in kills. Mack also led in blocks. Setter Hope Brewer led in both aces and assists. Defensive specialist Grace Mogen led the Aggies in digs (19).

The Panthers defeated the Sioux, 25-9, 25-12 and 25-11.

Volk led the Panthers in assists (12) and Leier led in aces (7). Jacque Blessum led in digs. Rear hitter Anni Stier led in kills for that go around with 6, with Maria Blessum just two kills behind.

For the Sioux, setter Trinity Arnason led in assists (4); defensive specialist/hitter Myah Radke and hitter Cheyanne Ryan tied in kills; Ryan also led in aces (2); and hitter/blocker Emmie Thompson led in both digs and blocks.

The Panthers finished their district matchups Thursday with a home game against Bottineau. They are competing at a tournament today in Carrington. They then go on the road Tuesday (Oct. 10), taking on the Harvey-Wells County Hornets, and host Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood two days later.

The District 11 volleyball tournament will be held Oct. 26, 27 and 30 at TGU Towner High School.
